First Day of Class Information

Below is some information regarding the first day of class. If you have danced with us before you have this information, but if not, there are just a few quick things to know before you come to class.

What to Wear?

Our Full Year (Sept-May) students should follow the Dress Code for all classes.

There is no set dress code for most short-term classes (including summer) but there are suggestions on our Dress Code page if you have any questions about appropriate apparel. Students should wear dance clothes or clothes that they can easily move in, as well as ballet shoes or socks/tights. Tap shoes are encouraged, but not required for Musical Theatre/Broadway & Ballet classes. Adults, please wear comfortable clothes that you can move in.

All Dancers should have their hair pulled back out out of their eyes. For ballet classes, longer hair should be in a bun, shorter hair can be pulled back with clips, a headband, or in a ponytail.

For the safety of dancers, no long earrings, necklaces, or bracelets. Appropriate classroom jewelry includes small stud earrings and thin chain necklace that will not move, get caught in a students’ hair, break and/or spill onto the floor.

What to Bring?

In addition to having dance shoes and clothes, bringing a water bottle is highly suggestsed. Additionally, if you haven't danced with us yet this season, please fill out and bring the completed Registration Form (see below).  We do have copies of this form in the studio.

Tuition?

Tuition for all classes is always due by the first day of class. If you have not danced with yet this season, there is a $25 registration fee per new student, or $15 for returning students due at registration to hold a spot in the class. The summer-only new student registration fee is $15. Cash or checks (made out to Northeast Dance Center) are accepted at the studio, or payments can be made via credit card online or in-person (for an additional fee). You will also receive a statement via email, and can always access your tuition information online here.

Family Members?

Our waiting area is equipped with space as well as books and toys for family members who are waiting. Family members are encouraged to not enter the dance space or floor while classes are being held, this way we have room for dancing. There is not enough space in the classroom for all the parents to watch class in the studio each week. Please bring your dancer to the door of the dance room at the class start time and our instructors will welcome your dancer into the studio. See directly below for information about performances.

Performance?

On the last day of short-term classes we will invite family members in to watch a short performance. Make sure you have your phones or cameras ready! Full-year classes have formal and informal performances throughout the year.

Trouble Adjusting?

We really want to help our students acclimate to the class routine and not come and go from the classroom during dance class (unless they need to use the restroom). Please encourage your dancer to stay in the studio and listen to the dance instructor for when it is time to leave the room. If however, your dancer is having a difficult time adjusting, we may send him or her out to visit with you for snuggles or encouragement as needed. We totally understand that everyone adjusts at a different pace and we will check in with you periodically to see if your dancer is ready to jump back in to class. If he or she is ready before we check back in, feel free to send your dancer back in to the studio.

Want Even More Info? We have tons of information in our Parent Handbook. We update this handbook every September for the new dance season.
